Sabina Holzer

Sabina Holzer studied contemporary dance at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Amsterdam / SNDO.

Before that she had theatre and acting training at the theatre laboratory "der Kreis" with George Tabori and Walter Lot (Schauspielhaus Wien) and was training with Markus Kupferblum's "Totales Theater" (Vienna). She studied experimental theatre and bodywork after Jacques Lecoq and Theatre de Corbeau Blanc in France and the Netherlands. 1989 she did the acting exam in Vienna.

Imagination, thoughts, language and text have always been and are up until now an integral part of dance according to her. Her work is based on Ruth Zaporah's Action Theatre, Kinesthetic Awareness, Somatic Movement, Yoga, Capoeira and Real Time Composition, which are important to her as a means of interplay between body and mind.

Since 1994 she develops her own works and performs it in Austria, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Israel, the USA a.o. She performs and collaborates with international choreographers such as: Daniel Aschwanden with Bilderwerfern (AT), Toxic Dreams (AT), Fabian Chyle (DE), Vera Mantero (PT), Jeroen Peeters (Author, BE), Lito Walkey (DE/ CA), Boris Hauf (Musician, AT) and Philipp Gehmacher (AT). She worked over a longer period wiith Lux Flux and Milli Bitterli / artificial horizon.
With Machfeld (aka Sabine Maier and Michael Mastrototaro), the musician Martin Siewert and the damaturge and author Jeroen Peeters collaborative relation is expanding through time.

Together with the visual artist and film maker Jack Hauser she forms a artistic compainonship. Since 2005 they work and create together different projects, such as "Paul Sernine und Miss Coochie“ as well as performances and interventions as site spezifc projects in museums, public and semi-public spaces within Jack Hausers project Wohnung Miryam van Doren.

Since 2003 she is a guest for research projects with Sabine Sonnenschein, Vera Mantero, Hooman Sharifi, Silke Bake, Juan Domingues and organised collaborative research projects at Tanzquartier Vienna, WUK Vienna, Vooruit Ghent, Le Quarz, COAX Production Stuttgart. In March 2010 she created an artistic research "On Listening" at the Tanzquartier Vienna.
She teaches exploration and composition at various institutions and groups at SNDO Amsterdam, Studio Warmoestraat Amsterdam, Tanz und Theaterwerkstatt Ludwigsburg, Experiment Tanz Berlin, DanceAbility for schools together with the collective Bilderwerfer, at the Academy for Music and Dance in Israel, Studio Machfeld (A), SEAD, ImPulsTanz, Condance (Vienna).

Since 2007 she is a editorial member and writes for www.corpusweb.net, an internetmagazin for dance, choreography and performance.

Sabina Holzer recent works was the performance "IT IS NOT THE PICTURE - Holzer / Hauser / Siewert" in 2010, based on the Stringquartett II by Morton Feldman. In 2011 she developed the performative reading „APPROACHING MYSELF AS A STRANGER".

At the moment the collaborative project „DIE UNBÄNDIGEN“ with Satu Herrala, Jack Hauser, Jeroen Peeters and Sabina Holzer is in preparation.
